Kaylee
Kaylee is a happy little girl with a rare accelerated aging disease called Progeria. Children with Progeria age 8 to 10 times faster than normal. Signs of Progeria include growth failure, loss of body fat and hair, aged-looking skin, stiffness of joints, hip dislocation, generalized atherosclerosis, cardiovascular (heart) disease and stroke. The children all have a remarkably similar appearance, despite differing ethnic background. Children with Progeria die of atherosclerosis (heart disease) at an average age of thirteen years (with a range of about 8 – 21 years)
Kaylee does not let this disease stop her from doing anything. She is like any other 5 year old. She plays t-ball and soccer. She has three older brothers and has lots of friends. She is attending her second year of preschool. She loves school and can’t wait until kindergarten. She wants to ride the school bus like her older brothers. Living with Kaylee, it is hard to feel sad because of how happy and energetic she is. However, I am hoping and praying that doctors will find a cure for this fatal disease. I can’t imagine life without Kaylee.
Kaylee is currently involved in a 2 1/2 year clinical trial that we hope will slow down the disease. The drug trial will cost $2 million. The Progeria Research Foundation is currently raising money to fund this trial. The foundation has already raised $1.6 million. If you would like to help Kaylee and other children afflict with Progeria have a chance to live a longer and healthier life please go to:
